Ceiling Fans – A classic and stylish way to keep cool
Ceiling Fans are one of the earliest fan models dating as far back as the 1860s and have continued to remain a popular choice throughout the years. The large blades effectively produce a blast of cool air and keep air flowing to ensure rooms are kept cool and the air feeling fresh. Ceiling fans have come a long way since their early days and are now available in a range of sleek colours and finishes, and can add that little bit extra to standard light fixtures. Ceiling fans are also a much more cost-friendly option than installing an air conditioning unit in your home.
Ideal for use in any room
The Great thing about ceiling fans is that they are ideal for use in almost every room in the house. They are a great space saver due to being affixed to the ceiling and you don’t need to ruin the décor of any room by having a fan out on the sides. You also don’t need to worry about packing it away in the winter month only to have to dig it back out when the season starts to warm up.
They are low volume so they are great for use in offices and home offices so they will not cause a disturbance, unlike other fans. No one wants to be making an important phone call only to be interrupted by the sound of air blowing down the phone or a tired old desk fan making your office look untidy.
Ceiling fans also have the advantage over many other fans as well since they can be used to not only create a cooling effect but to warm a room also. As most ceiling fans come with a function that allows you to reverse the blades this means when the temperatures start to drop you can help improve the flow of warm air in your room, making the room feel warmer.
How do ceiling fans work?
Most domestic ceiling fans use flat paddle-like blades as they are effective in creating both a downward and upward draft which produces the cooling and warming effect.
When spinning counter-clockwise ceiling fans work by something known as the wind chill effect. The blades spin quickly to create a downward draft pushing cool air down into the room, this air moves across the body to help to give a cool effect and helps to lower your body temperature.
When in reverse the blade begins to spin clockwise instead causing an updraft which then pulls the cold air up to the ceiling this allows for the warm air to sit lower down in the rooms and closer to you making the room feel warmer.
What Size Fan Do I need?
Deciding what fan size, you need all depends on the size of the room. The larger the fan the more it will move which will allow it to cool larger areas. However, you need to also be careful not to buy a fan that is too big for your room as this will then be too powerful and as well as using excess energy the effects may be too great. You can find a handy calculator online to work out exactly what size you need or you can give one of our customer service advisors a call and they will be happy to help.
