As of the 1st January 2018, the LOT 20 Eco Design legislation came into effect, ensuring any electric heater sold in the UK must meet certain requirements. More information on the specific Lot 20 requirements can be found here.
A lesser known effect of this new legislation is that councils and housing associations are now by law, required to install a Lot 20 electric heater into any properties where heating is required. This includes new builds, renovations and replacing individual units.
One of the many advantages of the IntelliHeat range is the ability to control the heating levels set from wherever you may be. For example, the WHAPP controls will allow the landlord to remotely control the heating in their rental property. Should a tenant set requirements far in excess of what they require, such as a desired temperature at 30°C, the landlord can remotely set and lock the settings in place at an acceptable level.
The radiators are maintenance-free, avoiding any costly services or other required checks that can occur with boilers and other heating systems.
The functions themselves on the radiator will save a property energy; up to 30% compared to storage heaters or inefficient panel heaters. Features include the Open Window Detector that prevents the heater from wasting energy should a door or window be opened and the market leading thermostat with an accuracy of 0.1 degrees that helps prevent costly energy and temperature fluctuations. TRIAC technology also staggers the wattage used as the room nears your chosen room temperature. Rather than a heater operating at full power say 1kW continually, the TRIAC technology lowers the wattage of the heater as it nears the temperature.
Some example data is detailed below:
A 1KW heater going from 15 to 20 degrees:
Power used @ 15°C: 1000W
Power used @ 16°C: 800W
Power used @ 17°C: 600W
Power used @ 18°C: 400W
Power used @ 19°C: 200W
Power used @ 20°C: 100W
In some cases the energy assessors recognised these smart radiators are more efficient than older storage heaters. This can improve the SAP rating of the property and consequently the EPCs improved from F to D.
The smart functions on the electric radiator also allow it to self learn and self program according to your own routine, in each room of your property. The radiator learns on a weekly basis and makes automatic adjustments to save a premises energy. If you always come home at 18:30 but your radiator is programmed to come on at 18:00, the intelligent function will automatically adjust the settings so you do not waste energy between 18:00 and 18:30, whilst also ensuring your tenants stay warm.
These savings are a fantastic benefit for the rental market as the radiator saves energy without any input from tenants.
The standards the IntelliHeat radiators reach include:
EMC Low Voltage ROHS
EN55014-1; EN55014-2; EN60335-2-30;EN50581; EN61000-3-2; EN61000-3-3; EN62333
Directives: EMC2004/108EC/ Low Voltage 2206/95/EC/ROHS 2011/65/EU and WEEE
Three Star NF approved. L1A, L2A and Ecodesign 2018 / Lot 20 Compliant
New Legislation EN BS 60335 - 1:2012 Acoustic & Visual signal for impaired when switching On & Off.
30 day trade accounts are granted to housing assocations, councils and landlords and trade discounts may also be applied, too.
