Summer is here! The sun is out, the days are longer, and kids will be out of school soon. So, what do you do on your summer days? It can be quite tricky finding ways to keep the whole family occupied over the summer, especially without having to spend a small fortune on expensive days out. In this blog, we will cover some fun things you can incorporate into your summer vacation.
Camping
We don’t regularly have nice weather here in the UK so it is important to take advantage of the warm weather when it’s here which is why camping is a great summer activity it is a great way to get outdoors, enjoy nature and see parts of the country you might not normally see not to mention it is a great opportunity to spend time with family and friends.
It's also an activity that can be enjoyed in a wide range of ways after all, there are so many options available these days from traditional tents to glamping or motorhome/caravan camping. This means it can be as low-cost or as expensive as you want it to be depending on where you choose to go and the kind of camping you choose to do.
Traditional tent camping offers a more authentic camping experience and for those without the means of travelling to a campground, they can even be set up in the comfort of your own back garden for a makeshift camping experience!
While ‘Glamping’ a rather more recent addition is a great way to experience camping without more of the comforts of a home – Glamping is ideal for families with older children or fussy teens who may not love this idea of being away from all the modern conveniences of home.
For those who are looking to plan something more extravagant or lengthy then hiring a motorhome or campervan prevents a unique opportunity to travel around the country seeing plenty of sights from nature parks, to historic monuments or exploring the coasts.
No matter which you opt for friends and family alike are bound to love spending time together and experiencing new things together, so why not take some time to plan a camping trip this summer?
Enjoy a BBQ with Friends or Family
Nothing says summer like a BBQ with friends and family it’s a staple of British summer – but the best thing about BBQ is that you don’t need to restrict yourself to having your BBQ at home. Invest in a portable BBQ that will allow you to take it with you on the go – so if you’re planning a day out to the beach, a weekend away camping or spending some time at the coast in a caravan then a BBQ is a must-have. Use your BBQ as a chance to get the family together to cook with each other, have different themed BBQs so that they don’t get bored with having the same food – try having a Mexican-themed night, Western-themed or a sea-themed together, there are plenty of options to choose from. Don’t forget to incorporate some fun games into the evening too that will keep everyone entertained while waiting for the food to cook and long after the sun has set. Board games are a great way to unwind and the end of the evening, while more active games such as badminton, tennis or even swing ball are a great way for both kids and adults to work up an appetite!

Set Out on a Picnic
A picnic is another summer essential, it’s a great way to spend some time outdoors and get creative with your food – trying out a mixture of different foods. Make it a two-day activity by pre-preparing your food with the help of the little ones the day before, baking some delicious treats and cooking up some yummy food to fill your basket with. It can also be an incredibly low-cost way to pass the day and get in some exercise – pick a national park, a local park or a hiking trail and set out for the day. Make sure to use a cool box or picnic basket that will keep your food fresh and cool until it’s ready to eat.
Picnic games are also a must-have, bring plenty of fun outdoor activities such as frisbees, a football or for those nature enthusiasts be sure to bring binoculars so you can see how many different types of birds and animals you can see while you are out on the trail. You can also bring along some other games such as cards, which are a perfect way for passing the time and relaxing under the sun without getting too fatigued.

Stargazing
Summer nights are a fantastic opportunity to do some stargazing with or without the help of a telescope. Since the sky is clearer and the summer boasts a lot of wonderful astronomical events too it’s a great opportunity for everyone of all ages to take some time to relax, unwind and enjoy the breath-taking sight of the sky.
Stargazing is a wonderful activity since it can be done from anywhere at all and a telescope is not always needed – however it is a good idea to remember that areas with less light will offer even more clarity, that’s why if you have a camping trip planned then try to schedule your stargazing during this time as you will get an unbeatable view of the night sky thanks to the lower amount of light pollution. You can also turn it into a fun and educational game for children by making a list of possible planets and constellations that are visible at the time and ticking them off when they find them!
