During summer, many people look forward to enjoying picnics and BBQ’s with family and friends. The warm weather and constant sunshine are a perfect combination which attracts many of us to take pleasure in eating outside. The perfect summer time picnic however can be ruined by flies and other insects causing a nuisance for guests. Flies can spread bacteria on food left unattended, or people could be victims of irritating bites. It is often an annoyance picnickers have to put up with, as it is quite difficult to prevent flies and other insects from interfering. One possible solution at keeping flies away from food is to use a deet free, natural insect repellent. This would be ideal for picnics, BBQs and even outdoor cafes and restaurants, because the insect repellent is odourless. Guests and customers would be unaware of the insect repellent and be left undisturbed. A natural insect repellent is extremely safe and can be even applied directly to your skin without causing irritation. Spray areas which you wish to keep insect free and reapply if necessary, as overtime the effects of the insect repellent may diminish. Additional methods to help keep flies away from food are listed below,
- Avoid picnics or BBQs too late in the evening, as flies and midges are at their most active during this time.
- Leave food in containers until you are ready to serve.
- Avoid brightly coloured table cloths. The bright colours can attract the attention of wasps and bees.
- Make sure food is served on a table away from where guests are sitting. Once food has been served it should be covered up straight away and any litter should be thrown away immediately.
