Having rats and mice in your home is never a fun experience. They’re a huge nuisance for everyone; chewing on your household items, leaving droppings and they are often covered in several diseases. Their ability to squeeze through small holes, move quickly, and spread diseases, often causes frustration for companies and homeowners leading them to kill the mice or rats inhumanely in the hope that they’ll get rid of them for good – causing the animal to suffer greatly. Many traps either behead or injure the animal they catch – which often involves the animals dying slowly due to improper use, or dying of blood loss. With 2019 seeing more and more people supporting animal welfare projects, you might be wondering if there must be another way to banish these critters for good without having a guilty conscience. Luckily, there is! Hygiene Supplies Direct supply a variety of mouse and rat traps, many of which are designed to get rid of your unwanted visitors, without risking their wellbeing!
Set the Trap
Before you use a mouse or rat trap, there are a few things that you need to know beforehand in order to prevent harming the animal. The best way to ensure this happens is by checking the traps regularly to avoid the rodent being stuck inside a small space for a long period of time, resulting in them becoming scared and panicked. (They often begin chewing their legs and tails, as they believe this will help them to escape.) However, if this is not possible, you can ensure the trap has food, water and nesting materials. A small amount of food, water, and straw will allow your humane trap to provide the creature with enough warmth and nutrients for them to survive comfortably – until you are able to free the animal! Avoid leaving a trap out overnight, as it may result in a rat or mouse being trapped for several hours.
The Traps
In order for a trap to be classed as humane, they must avoid killing or harming the animal in any way. You’ll be pleased to know that we have a variety of traps in stock that prevent the likelihood of any pain occurring to the animal!
Trip Trap Mouse Trap
One of our humane traps, the Pest Stop Trip-Trap Mousetrap is one of the best on the market for making sure rodents are trapped quickly and painlessly. Made in Britain, this trap is designed to entice the animal into the trap (using food), with a door at the rear to quickly close, leaving the animal trapped inside. A major benefit of this product is that it is made from clear plastic, meaning you can easily see when a creature has been successfully caught. Another is the ventilation holes, which allow the rat or mice to breathe better, causing less stress for the animal. It’s also a very spacious trap, that allows the mouse to feel less confined until you are able to release it back into the wild.
Multi Catch Humane Mouse Trap
If you suspect there are several mice or rats in your household, then this is the trap for you. The Multi Catch Humane Mouse Trap is designed to capture up to 4 mice at the same time making it the perfect option for removing multiple rodents quickly! The trap is designed with a one-way flap, which resets itself after a mouse has entered the trap – meaning more mice can enter but none can escape! This trap also features several ventilation holes, providing air for up to 4 mice. With a clear top, it’s simple to see if any rodents have been caught, making it even easier to return the mice into the wild unharmed.
Steel Multi-catch Mouse Trap
Designed to capture up to ten mice, this trap is perfect for those who are suffering from an extensive rodent problem. Unlike many others, this trap features two entry points, making the likelihood of capture twice as likely. Despite this being a trap to capture multiple animals, ventilation points are still present to allow up to ten (yes, ten!) mice to breathe, decreasing the chance of the animals being stressed before being released. This trap also features a clear top, providing easy access to see inside the trap so you are immediately aware when a mouse has successfully been caught. (Please note: this product can only be purchased by professional pest control operatives.)
Pest-Stop Rat Cage
If rats are the rodent you’re concerned about, this Pest-Stop Rat Cage is the trap for you. Thanks to its secondary one-way entrance, multiple rats can be captured. It features a spring-loaded front entrance which is triggered once the intruder is securely inside, trapping the rat securely in the cage.
Address the Issue
Although humane mouse and rat traps are a great way to get rid of any unwanted guests, there are things you can do to prevent them from returning once the problem has been addressed. In order to stop these pesky rodents from entering your home for good, you must address the underlying issue and find out exactly where they are entering so you can prevent more from making their way in and making themselves at home. Somewhere, there is an entrance in your property that is hugely appealing for rats or mice to make their way in. Typically, mice and rats enter through cracks and holes found in walls and ceilings (particularly those found in a loft) and therefore finding and filling on those holes will keep the rodents away for good. Another mistake many homeowners make when dealing with mice and rats is leaving food out in easily accessible places. These small animals are drawn to areas where food can be accessed without any hassle, so avoid leaving crumbs and leftovers uncovered, or out on your countertops. If the rodents are unable to find any substance of food, they will be unable to survive and therefore more likely to vacate your home!
