Your heating is not warm enough when you're watching TV? Most people tend to turn up their heating via electric panel heaters which results in a high heating bill at the end of the winter, which is not great after all the expense of Christmas. One easy solution can be found in an economic electric blanket that will keep you warm enough when needed. Low cost energy, powerful, easy to use, an efficient and practical way to improve your home.
Electric blanket: How it works?
Basically, an electric blanket works like a heating pad. It uses an insulated wire or heating element inserted into fabric that heats when it is plugged in. The temperature control unit, located between the blanket and the electrical outlet, manages the amount of current entering into the heat elements in the blanket. Newer electric blankets work on a low voltage of 24 volts and have a shut off mechanism to prevent the blanket from overheating or catching fire. Older units (prior to about 2001) may not have a shut-off mechanism and users run the risk of overheating. Older blankets are considered fire hazards.
Using an electric blanket: How much will it cost me?
Most people think that it is insane to use as it will be expensive to run. Well, they are wrong. The running cost is approximately less than 2p per night (based on 2 hours per night). Obviously, the price depends on your regional electricity costs but if it's based on 2 hours usage per night and you use your electric blanket every day for 3 months, the total electricity cost for the whole 3 month period would be approx equal to £1.10. It's as simple as it is, the electric blanket doesn't cost a lot to run and will save your money over the winter period compared to central heating or other portable heating solutions.
Ok but when could I use it?
Any time you want…. that may sound crazy but let's say every time you feel cold and don't want to boost your heating, use it. It could be when watching TV, in bed, on the sofa. For most of these new electric blankets, it can welcome 3 people as it has got 3 heat sections! So let’s be warm together...
Shall I buy it or not?
It's a definite yes for me. You can find some economic and powerful electric blankets from as little as £30. Plus, you need to realise that this will contribute to saving a lot of money on your electricity bill at the end of the winter and therefore you are allowed to spend more money in the January sales!!
