With spring now appearing to have well and truly sprung, it may be time for you to update that winter decor and make room for a fresh start. Updating your home decor can be an expensive and daunting task for many, with prints and styles dominating the shops with the change in each season. Instead of only searching the shops for the latest 'in' styles, upgrade your pre-existing items into spring statement pieces, creating the perfect mix between thrifty and modern fixtures.
Cushions, Cushions, Cushions
Whether you are a cushion enthusiast or have one or two, changing the covers are a great way to implement some colour into your home. Swap the cosy winter tones for vibrant prints and colours. Contrast with clashing prints, or pick a clean colour scheme to build upon throughout your home. Either way, this is a simple way to completely change the look of a room without clearing your bank account
Decoupage Old Furniture
In basic terms, decoupage simply means to 'cut out', originating from the French verb 'découper.' Similar to how you would collage, decoupaging includes collecting cutouts of a specific item and sticking them onto furniture to create a brighter and more unique piece. For example, collecting cut outs of flowers and covering an old chest of drawers will transform a once boring and dismal piece of wooden furniture into a spring centrepiece!
Embrace Nature
With the arrival of spring comes the arrival of much more wildlife. The sky turns blue and much more greenery can be seen, creating a contrasting atmosphere to the prior grey winter sights. This is easy to implement within your home as well, by inviting the nature inside. A few house plants can really brighten up a room and create a calming environment. Not only is this aesthetically pleasing, but house plants have also been known to purify air and lower anxiety levels, adding to the calming nature of your new spring decor.
Create a New Ambience
Ambience refers to the 'feel' you get when entering a room. For us, one of the most important factors in creating a spring-like atmosphere is the scent. Despite implementing new colour schemes and decoupaging your furniture to your heart's content, if you're still burning those winter candles, your home will reflect the previous season. Key spring scents can be found in sea salt, coconut and lemon candles - any scent that is fresh and light to contrast those musky warm fragrances you're used to.
Lighten Up
With the brighter months approaching, a dark colour scheme is definitely something to avoid. Although cosy and comforting in the winter, dark bedspreads and throws will prevent your home from feeling fresh and uplifting - despite how bright the weather may look outside! Ditch those outdated pieces for some vibrant and more neutral tones to complement the new atmosphere you have created. Bright materials will offer a key focus point for any room, whereas a light neutral tone will allow you to incorporate textures and prints in the cushions and other decorative pieces you may wish to use.
