Hi, can I put tea bags in the urn once the water has boiled, then remove the tea bags when the desired strength has been reached and then just leave it on to dispense hot tea all day?

What is the lowest temperature i can hold the water at using the thermostat
The lowest temperature is around 60°C.

We do not recommend using the urn for anything otherwise what it is intended for, making hot drinks.
When used after filling with cold water does the urn turn itself to the desired temperature or do we have to turn the dial. Does it have a simmerstrat.
Some Swan models come with a simmerstat and the temperature ranges from 60 to 100c.
Can the urn be turned off for prolonged periods of time and the water stay very hot?
No, the Urn would require power to keep the water very hot.
Is this urn double walled to stop the exterior getting very hot?
We would want to buy several and apply branding to the outside.
This urn is not double walled, and the exterior will get hot.

The spout part of the tap is metal, but the top lever part is plastic.
In one of your answers you say that these models have a keep warm functionred, but it sees to me that the 8 litre model does NOT in fact have a keep warm function but has a dial in which you set your chosen heat level. So how do you know where to set it
The 8L Swan Catering Urn has a 'simmerstat' which gives more control over the water temperature (between 60 degrees C and 100 degrees C). We would recommend to turn it to setting 4 to 5 from cold and full, then turn down to 3 to 4 which is sufficient for hot drinks, to save energy. (Please see the Instructions Manual in the product details for further information).
What is the measurement from the bottom of the tap to the drip tray ie what size mug will fit under the tap?

How long does it keep water hot for once unplugged - we would be transporting it to a football field with no electricity.
The length of time the water would keep warm would depend on the external temperature. These type of water heaters heat up to just below boiling point, and have a keep warm function to keep the water hot enough to make drinks. If the urn is not plugged into the mains electricity, this function will not be applied and the water will become unsuitable for making hot drinks. We would estimate that the water would be at an unsuitable temperature after around 20 minutes. We have the LPG water heaters that run off bottled gas, suitable for outdoors. You can use this tea urn on a daily basis constantly.
HOW DO YOU DESCALE THE SWAN URN
You can use any kettle descaler found on the high street, following the instructions given on the packaging.
A few questions here: First, what material is the heating element and does it come into contact with the water?
Second, will the water come into contact with any plastic or is the inside of the boiler all stainless steel?
Finally, is temperature control
The heating element is made of stainless steel and doesn't come in direct contact with the water. The water doesn't come into contact with plastic parts other than the tap, which complies with food contact REACH and RoHS standards. The inside of the urn is all stainless steel. The thermostat models give the user a range of about 60c - 100C (constantly boiling). There is no advise on what the increments on the thermostat dial equate to temperature wise.
How long is the plug lead please
The cable is 1 metre long.
Do I need to fill the urn up with water or can I only boil the amount of water I need? I am buying it as using a kettle is difficult, because of medical concerns, rather than for catering purposes.

You do not have to fill the unit to the top. However, a couple of litres would be required as a minimum, to make sure the unit did not boil dry all the time.
Looking at the dimensions, the urn will only just fit in the space due to cupboards above. I'm concerned on the filling of the urn, I'm presuming that you have to remove the urn to place under a tap to fill. Is this correct and if so how much does it ne
The urns have a removable lid therefore it is advisable to use bottled water or a large jug to fill the urn up. Ensure a big enough urn is purchased to last you all day then you can just fill the urn the once on a morning if it is not safe to refill through the day.
Does this urn have a removeable drip tray? I am looking for an urn that I can use to fill a teapot, so would like to know the clearance under the tap with and without the tray in place please.
The unit does have a removable drip tray. However, Swan have advised the gap is not big enough to place a teapot underneath.

It is not recommended by the Manufacturer. This catering urn is designed to heat water only.
Please can you advise how long this urn would take to bring 8 litres to the boil from cold.

28 half pint mugs approx (14 pints = 8 litres).
I would like to put Mulled wine (only the wine and not the fruit / spices) in the urn. Will the urn cope?
